if you aren't a subscriber, make a trip to your local newsstand to pick up the November 1 issue of the New Yorker. Richard Avedon's (unfinished) photo portfolio, "Democracy 2004", is worth much more than the magazine's cover price.

The breathtaking quality of the portraits combined with the knowledge that Avedon died last month makes the series all the more heartbreakingly excellent.
