happy Bloomsday.

In honor of the hundredth anniversary, Jeffrey Eugenides and Jim Lewis are discussing Ulysses and modernism [slate].

I only got through the first hundred or so pages before needing to return the book to the Vail public library. Although Fred pointed to several good links [frwfiller], including an online text, I think I'll wait until later to try again.

After all, Oblivion is sitting on my bookshelf just waiting to be read.

oblivion: me too. i keep reading bad reviews and so i'm scared.
really? Maud Newton posted a collection of reviews on her weblog [mn]. Though I haven't read all of them, they seemed generally good. Daniel Handler's critique was particularly sparkling [newsday].

I read a couple of the stories when they were originally published elsewhere ("Mr. Squishy" in McSweeney's under a pseudonym; and "Good Old Neon" in The O. Henry Prize Stories 2002) and while they weren't perfect, I look forward to re-reading.
