but why read the news anyway?

In an interview with Brit Hume (who, according to GWB, has a "beautiful face"), we learned that George W. Bush relies on morning briefings from Andy Card and Condoleeza Rice for the news. While he looks at the headlines, he rarely reads the stories saying:

"The best way to get the news is from objective sources. And the most objective sources I have are people on my staff who tell me what's happening in the world."
