Yesterday our office celebrated Norwegian Independence day by having a Scandinavian Potluck (featured: fish in a tube, caviar in a tube, potatoes with semi-secret pickled herring!). Some googling revealed that we were really having a belated celebration of the anniversary of the Norwegian constitution. It took about eighty more years for independence. And the independence seemed more like a transition period during administrative handoff between Denmark and Sweden. The whole thing (and our shallow research) left me wondering how Scandinavia went from fearsome Vikings to socialist utopia.
Between the potluck & meetings of yesterday and classes & cafe lounging of today, this week is turning out to be a productivity wasteland.
