This quarter will probably be more boring, but also more useful than winter. I think this is a good thing. By the end of the last quarter, I completely resented my courses because they required work that I had to do for the purpose of being graded but not for learning (or really even for evaluating anything). Exchanging fun for utility is my current brand of optimism.
Another good thing: in the second class, all notes were presented on the chalkboard. No overheads, no PowerPoint. I am not categorically against either of these technologies, but it felt like a nice change.
After class, I started doing my taxes and ran on the elliptical machine to kill time until the Tuesday night social activity: dinner at Big Time and ice cream at The Mix. There were two other tables of public health students at Big Time, and at The Mix a kid came in and mysteriously induced the pinball machine to allow two free games.
There's probably something else, but I can't think of what it is. The weather is cold now, but not too cold for customized frozen desserts.
