the only earth?

weekend+ recap

Wow. I already sort of knew this from Coachella, but Art Brut is really great in a live setting. I think they really benefit from a sold out mid-sized venue compared to a sparsely attended tent and booked against TOOL and Scissor Sisters. In a month couple weeks packed full of great music, their Saturday show with We Are Scientists was among the more fun. I typed a bit more about this show elsewhere [metblogs] this afternoon, for fans of hyperbolic prose.

Sunday night with Thunderbirds Are Now! was pretty entertaining, too. The keyboard player was hilariously enthusiastic -- full body keyboarding, occasional massive tambourine freak-out, and weird uses of duct tape. I was planning for a night of exclamation point bands, but We Say Party! You Say Die! got stuck in Canada. I guess America is not yet ready for them. Someday ...

Tonight the usual pub quiz gang plus a couple of new recruits checked out the scene at Kate's Pub. It was far too jarring to be in a new environment (not to mention the awful sound system); so we might return to our regular dose of punishment at the Irish Emigrant next week.

Speaking of Rocktober. Tomorrow = Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Architecture in Helsinki, & Takka Takka [!!!]. It turns out that I have a couple extra tickets; so let me know if you want to buy them.
