"the american people are safer"

I'm a day behind, but the opening segment from yesterday's Daily Show about terror and the upcoming elections was pretty great. For those of you who didn't see it, a video clip is now online:
Our government has decided that if al Qaeda tries to disrupt our democratic process we will respond by disrupting it FIRST.[dailyshow]
Unfortunately, it doesn't include the Rob Corddry segment about the voting shield and confusing the terrorists by using unreliable voting systems. We laugh because it's true.

update: the clips are posted in non-streaming format [lisarein]

thanking the academy

with it's power-trio of The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and Angels in America, HBO once again dominates this year's crop of Emmy nominees [salon].

of note: a few nominations for Arrested Development (which seems slightly less meaningful to survival given the academy's nomination of dead John Ritter and cancelled Joan of Arcadia) and the virtual snub of The Tonight Show, and the obligatory "nominate everyone" from SATC strategy.

The complete list of nominees is available at the official site [emmys.tv] and the commentary at Out of Focus [oof] is terrific.
