the only earth?

a fickle monkey is deciding the weather.

when I left to go downtown this morning to get a haircut, I couldn't see any clouds in the sky. fifteen minutes and a few odd miles later, the sun was gone and the wind and rain had taken over. it was completely weird. I never expect the wind off the bay, but it is usually there. you'd think I’d learn.

Anyway, I went home and watched the end of Citizen Kane and had lunch. I like the quote about memory that's also on the DCFC Stability EP: "The gift of memory is an awful curse." --Ben Gibbard, "Stability". A lot of intelligent people call this one of the best films, but it's a little difficult for me to fully appreciate how much of a breakthrough it was in terms of technical merits without knowing a great deal more about movie history. For now, I'll just take their word for it.

I like NetFlix for helping me catch up on these huge pop culture monuments that I somehow missed along the way.
the only earth?

sunday's about to expire

saw the shins tonight. I like them quite a bit and seem to forget to listen to their cd as often as I should. Maybe because it holds on to my brain too much to function as background music. Their songs are sprinkled with some really nice lines.

Even though "New Slang" was in a McDonald's commercial, I can't help but think it's a perfect little pop song. I hope they made some good money from selling it -- it was an offensive commercial, but I have no problem with bands making a little cash. Moby is pretty much a genius and it works for him, so why not others?
